Vol. 338 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - EEC Labour Force Survey.

7.

asked the Taoiseach if he will confirm that the proposed EEC Labour Force Survey will include within its list of questions a question to enable the number of separated people in our society to be calculated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A labour force survey involving interviews with a sample of households will be carried out in 1983. Advance small scale pilot inquiries in connection with the survey will be used to assess among other aspects the feasibility of collecting fuller information on actual marital status in the context of a voluntary survey of this kind. Assuming the pilot inquiries show this to be feasible, it is intended to seek the more comprehensive information on marital status in the 1983 labour force survey.

Would the Minister attempt to ensure that every effort will be made to design the pilot study in such a way as to get this information in the full survey in 1983?

As far as I can influence that, it will be done. This has been requested by a number of organisations.
