Vol. 339 No. 4

Written Answers. - Examination Fees.

975.

asked the Minister for Education the reason there has been a 33 per cent increase in fees for examinations conducted by her Department which include the following subjects:— intermediate shorthand, advanced shorthand and intermediate and advanced typing for the academic year 1982-83.

The level of fees for the examinations referred to by the Deputy in respect of the 1982-83 school year was decided on by the Government in December 1981 in connection with its consideration of the Public Estimates for 1982 since these fees were to be paid and credited to Appropriations-in-Aid in that year. The increase in the fees for intermediate shorthand and intermediate typing was from £7 to £8 i.e. 14 per cent. Increases in examination fees take into account the increased cost of holding the examinations.
