Vol. 339 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Rosabhíl Harbour Committee.

5.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he intends to arrange a meeting in the near future with the Rosabhíl Harbour Development Advisory Committee; and if he will make a statement outlining the plans for future development of this major fishery harbour.

A major development is being planned for Rosabhíl fishery harbour. A development of the scale envisaged requires careful planning as it must provide for onshore and offshore facilities to cater for the landing, marketing and processing of the catch as well as the servicing of the fleet.

Work is at present in progress on the preparation of the plan which is based on the recommendations of the Harbour Development Advisory Committee which has been set up and which represents all the fishery interests involved. When the draft plan is ready I will arrange to have it submitted to the advisory committee for any observations they may wish to make and I will give their observations careful consideration. I do not intend to reconvene the committee before the draft plan is available for their comments.
