Vol. 339 No. 9

Written Answers. - Farmer Statistics.

360.

asked the Minister for Agriculture how many full and part-time farmers there were in 1981 and 1982.

Information on the numbers of full-time and part-time farmers in 1981 and 1982 is not available from official sources. The farm management survey of An Foras Talúntais estimates the number of full-time farms in 1981 as having been 119,870 out of a total of 247,598 holdings over five acres. The number of part-time farms in 1981 on this basis was, therefore, 127,728. The results of the farm management survey for 1982 are not expected to be available until July 1983. Details of definition and methodology are given in the farm management survey report, 1981, a copy of which may be consulted in the Library.
