Vol. 340 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kilbarry (Cork) Industrial Projects.

245.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the industrial projects that have been attracted so far to the IDA site at Kilbarry, Cork; and the plans the IDA have for future developments.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that the provision of services to 100 acres of its 186 acre site in Kilbarry was completed in 1982. Two advance factories of 42,000 sq. ft. each and a 6×3000 sq. ft. cluster unit have been constructed on the site. A third 42,000 sq. ft. factory is planned for construction in 1983.

North Star Computers Incorporation of California, which will manufacture high performance desk top microcomputers in one of the 42,000 sq. ft. factories, is at present recruiting key management and supervisory staff. This company will employ 290 people at full production.

In addition, Iprodex Manufacturing Ltd., has acquired a seven acre site from the IDA and has initiated planning procedures for the construction of a 50,000 sq. ft. factory on the site. This project plans to employ more than 50 people in the next year. The second 42,000 sq. ft. factory is reserved for an overseas company which is in negotiation with the IDA for the establishment of a high technology project.
