Vol. 340 No. 2

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take item No. 3 (resumed). Private Members' Business will be item No. 13 (resumed). By agreement, the proceedings on item No. 13 will be brought to a conclusion at 8.30 p.m., if not previously concluded. The final speaker for Fianna Fáil will be called upon to conclude not later than 8.15 p.m.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the question of the instructions given to the Irish delegation to the London Dumping Convention about the attitude which they should adopt in relation to the dumping of radioactive waste at sea.

The Chair will communicate with Deputy Andrews.

On the Order of Business, could the Taoiseach tell the House if he has taken any steps to remedy the situation affecting the imprisoned North Dublin workers and the potential problem which could be created in Irish industrial relations?

The Deputy will have to find another occasion and another modus operandi for raising that matter.

The Chair and the House must appreciate how potentially serious this situation is. Because of that seriousness, it is a matter of extreme urgency for the Taoiseach to inform the House of his attitude to the position and what steps he intends taking to rectify it.

There is the question of not establishing a precedent there. There is also the question of having order on the Order of Business. I suggest to Deputy Fitzgerald that, if he seriously wants to raise this subject, and I am sure that he does——

That Deputy.

Yes. This is the Taoiseach. That is Deputy Fitzgerald.

I am not sure who should be where.

The Taoiseach is safe enough.

If Deputy Fitzgerald seriously wants to raise this subject — and I am sure that he does — he should get his party's Whip to approach the Government Whip and see if anything can be arranged.

It is not fair to all party Whips to have the responsibility for this. The responsibility for the potential danger rests fairly and squarely on the Government's shoulders. It is a matter for the Taoiseach, not for the Whips. It is for the Taoiseach to inform the House what steps he intends taking to rectify a worsening situation.

Deputy Fitzgerald is being disorderly.

The Deputy could put down a question.

Could the Taoiseach tell the House when it is proposed to move the Second Stage of the Companies (Amendment) Bill in view of the disquiet which has been expressed recently concerning limited liability, and so forth?

The Bill will be moved at the earliest opportunity, as requested in the Dáil.

Could the Minister indicate whether it will be taken in this or the next session?

I hope that it will be taken in this session.

Could the Minister tell the House when the all-party Committee on State-sponsored Bodies will be resurrected?

Proposals for the reestablishment of certain committees and the establishment of others will be put to the Opposition in the very near future. We hope to get these established within a matter of the next few weeks.

Could the Taoiseach indicate at this stage the actual wording of the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution?

This is becoming like a serial. This will all be dealt with tomorrow.

I understand that there are five options open to the Government at this stage.

How many options did the Deputy need?

That was the last time. Will the Taoiseach allow me to read out some of the options?

The Deputy may raise all these points tomorrow.
