Vol. 340 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Item No. 4 (resumed).

I feel it is necessary to say to the Government, lest there be any doubt about it — some contrary reports have been circulating — that on this side of the House we are not prepared to agree to any postponement of Item No. 4. We wish to have this legislation proceeded with as expeditiously as possible, allowing, of course, full time for discussion on all the issues involved.

We share that desire.

When is it the intention to bring before the House the Bill to reduce pay-related benefit to 25 per cent, to extend the waiting period from 12 days to 18 days and reduce payment for the 3-day week?

The date for that will be agreed between the Whips in due course.

I understand it must be implemented by the end of March. Can we take it that it will come before the House very shortly?

I am sure it will be coming shortly but the exact arrangements will be sorted out between the Whips.
