The total grant-in-aid for 1982 for the National Board for Science and Technology was £3,016,800. The bulk of the grant-in-aid was spent on remuneration, either directly by the board, or by institutions aided by the board. The expenditure on goods and services attracting VAT was incurred mainly by the many institutions aided by the board and the particulars of the VAT payments involved are not available to the board.
