Vol. 341 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers . - AnCO Training Centre .

20.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has any plans to establish an AnCO training centre in Killarney, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: The development of the AnCO training centre network throughout the country is, in the first place, a matter for the council of AnCO. I am informed that AnCO are satisfied that their recently extended training centre facilities at Tralee, supplemented by the assignment of a mobile training unit and the organisation of external training and community youth training programmes in the Killarney district, can adequately cater for the training needs of the area.

: Is the Minister aware of the large number of young people in Killarney and east Kerry who are on the waiting list seeking AnCO training courses at present?

: As I said, the organisations which AnCO have in the area would seem sufficient for the needs there. If additional places are required I will make this fact known to AnCO to see what arrangements can be made to reduce the numbers on the waiting list.

: Is the Minister aware of the unusually large number of applications received by the National Manpower office in Killarney in response to an advertisement inviting young people who intend to pursue AnCO training courses in certain fields to apply? Could he give a breakdown of the number of applicants who responded to this advertisement?

: Once again, the information sought in this question is not now available to me. I am not aware of the number who applied for AnCO courses, or to the National Manpower office. I will make such information known to AnCO to see what arrangements can be made to cater for additional numbers.
