asked the Minister for Defence the total cost of improvements carried out at Ballymullan Army Barracks, Tralee, County Kerry, over the past three years; the total Army personnel based in Tralee; and the future plans of the Army for this property.

, Dún Laoghaire): It is proposed to continue to use Ballymullan Barracks for the training of personnel of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and for summer training camps for units of An Fórsa and of the Permanent Defence Force.

The cost of improvement and maintenance works carried out at the barracks over the past three years was £54,000 approximately. For security reasons it is the practice not to furnish information on the numbers of personnel at individual barracks or posts.

: Is it now understood that the training camps will be reduced in the coming year?

(Dún Laoghaire): It is proposed to continue to use Ballymullen Barracks this year.

: On the same basis?

(Dún Laoghaire): For the training of personnel of the FCA.

: On the same basis as last year?

(Dún Laoghaire): That is correct.
