asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to pay unemployment benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

: According to the records of the Department the person concerned has no contributions paid or credited in the contribution year from April 1981 to April 1982 which governs his claim to benefit from January last. He does not for this reason qualify for unemployment benefit.

He has been asked to furnish a P.60 form or an employer's statement giving details of his employment during the relevant contribution year. When he does so his entitlement to unemployment benefit will receive further consideration.

Pending the completion of inquiries about his contribution record he has been asked to call to his local office to make a claim for unemployment assistance.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to pay an increase in unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

: The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was recently investigated by a social welfare officer following which his means have been assessed as being in excess of the statutory limit with effect from 23 March 1983. Means in his case are derived from land and from self-employment as a fisherman. His unemployment assistance claim has been disallowed from 23 March 1983. If he is dissatisfied with the decision it is open to him to appeal and to have his case determined by an appeals officer. A form for this purpose may be obtained at his local office.

He was certified fit for work by his own doctor on 28 January 1983. He has appealed against the disallowance of disability benefit between the two dates mentioned and his appeal has been referred to an appeals officer for decision.
