Vol. 341 No. 3

Written Answers . - Water and Sewerage Schemes .

552.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

: The design for the scheme referred to by the Deputy was received in my Department on 24 February 1983 and is being examined by the local inspector who is to have discussions with officials of Roscommon County Council concerning the integration of this proposal into the structure of regional schemes in the area. If the design is found to be in order the group will be advised to seek quotations from which an estimate may be prepared and grants allocated.

553.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve maximum grants for a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

: My Department have requested Roscommon County Council to test the proposed source for the scheme referred to by the Deputy to determine its suitability. When results of these tests are received and if they are satisfactory the group will be advised to have a design prepared for the scheme. The question of allocating grants to the scheme does not arise at this stage. There is no relevant loan proposal from Roscommon County Council before my Department.

554.

asked the Minister for the Environment the (a) water and (b) sewerage schemes in Counties Monaghan and Cavan waiting for sanction in his Department; and the schemes it is proposed to sanction in 1983.

: Contract documents for the following public schemes in counties Cavan and Monaghan are at present under consideration in my Department.

(a) Water Schemes

There are no water schemes awaiting sanction in the Department.

(b) Sewerage Schemes

County Cavan: (i) Butlersbridge Sewerage Scheme; (ii) Dowra Sewerage Scheme; (iii) Kingscourt Sewerage Scheme.

County Monaghan: (iv) Ballybay Sewerage Scheme; (v) Castleblayney Sewerage Scheme.

The question of approval must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for sanitary services and the number of schemes of high priority at present under construction or getting to construction for which adequate finance must be provided including the Ballybay/Lough Egish regional water supply scheme, the Ballyhaise sewerage scheme and the Cavan regional water supply scheme.
