Vol. 341 No. 5

Written Answers . - Timber Supply .

35.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason an insufficient or inadequate supply of trees is made available from the local forests to a company (details supplied) in County Donegal, which needs approximately 80 tons per week and which is receiving only 20 tons per week, while 240 tons per week are being exported from local forests.

: This is a relatively new company from which very few tenders have been received to date in respect of timber advertised for sale in the open market. Nevertheless, the company has been able to obtain part of its requirements under the tender system and from direct local sales. Existing contractual arrangements of a temporary nature have imposed limitations on the quantities of small size material available to other users but I have asked that the position be discussed with the company referred to to see if some improvement in its supply situation would be possible.
