Written Answers . - Ross Castle (Killarney) Improvements .

832.

asked the Minister for Finance when the restoration work on Ross Castle, Killarney, County Kerry, will be completed.

: It would be premature to give a date by which works to Ross Castle will be completed. A considerable amount of work was done to the monument between 1975 and 1982 to prevent its collapse and to undo some of the less sympathetic alterations of the last 300 years. Structural consultants were engaged last year to prepare detailed plans for the major structural consolidation of the castle which is necessary before final conservation can commence. This structural work will take about four years to complete.

833.

: The bridge at Ross Castle, which is known as Reen Bridge, has been found to be structurally defective and is closed to all but pedestrian traffic. Repairs will be undertaken as soon as resources permit.
