Vol. 341 No. 6

Written Answers . - South Dublin Vandalism .

1129.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the increase in crime and vandalism in the South Dublin area, he will indicate the measures he intends to take to combat it; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

, Limerick East): The precise arrangements for policing particular areas are a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that they are satisfied with the policing of the south Dublin area, which comprises the Garda Districts of Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock and Rathfarnham, and that, having regard to the present Garda strength, the members in this area are deployed to best advantage.

The question of how best to deploy Garda resources to combat changing criminal activity and to provide for greater efficiency and effectiveness is constantly under review. Extra manpower has recently been allocated to these districts and the question of further increasing the strength will be considered according as the additional manpower currently in training becomes available.
