Vol. 341 No. 6

Written Answers . - Unemployment Assistance .

274.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason unemployment assistance at the maximum rate is not being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

: In order to qualify for unemployment assistance at maximum rate a person must be assessed with nil means. The person concerned was assessed with weekly means of £37 derived from his wife's earnings. Accordingly he is receiving unemployment assistance at the weekly rate of £6.95 being the appropriate maximum weekly rate in his case of £43.95 less means £37.

296.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the present position regarding an application for unemployment assistance by a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

: The person concerned had been receiving unemployment assistance of £82.20 being the appropriate maximum weekly rate in his case of £85.75 less notionally assessed means of £3.55 derived from his land.

Following a review of his means his qualification certificate was revoked with effect from 18 August 1982 on the grounds that his means derived from his land and from the capital value of house property exceeded the statutory income limit in his case. He appealed against the decision revoking his qualification certificate and following the completion of further inquiries the case has been submitted to an appeals officer for determination. His entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of the appeals officer's decision.
