Vol. 341 No. 9

Written Answers . - Clifden (Galway) School .

751.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in deciding on access arrangements to the site for the proposed new national school at Clifden, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: The proposals which the Office of Public Works had prepared for the access arrangements for the proposed new school at Clifden, County Galway, proved to be unacceptable to the local authority without major modifications. These modifications would give rise to substantial additional expenditure and since the Office of Public Works was loath to recommend the additional expenditure for grant to the Department of Education it decided to re-examine the question of access to the site ab initio. Such examination has revealed that alternative access, at reasonable cost, which would be acceptable to the local authority, is feasible, if an additional plot of ground is made available. It is understood that the manager of the school is in a position to offer the plot required and the Office of Public Works will be in touch with the manager this week seeking confirmation of this.
