Vol. 341 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Telephone Service .

12.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will have the very substantial telephone account which issued to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny reinvestigated as she is adamant that there is an overcharge.

: The subscriber's complaint has already been fully investigated. Details of the accounts were discussed with her and they were found to be correct. Arrangements are being made, in agreement with the subscriber, to collect the outstanding amount by instalments.

: Is that one of the 200 accounts which are in dispute which were mentioned by the Minister yesterday? In my own constitutency there are about 40 or 50 accounts in dispute.

(Interruptions.)

: I am asking the Minister to reply, is this one of the 200 accounts to which he referred yesterday?

: Certainly.

: If that is so, there are only 199 complaints left to deal with.

: I did not say whether it was 200 per day, per week, per month, or per year. That is where the Deputy missed the point.

(Interruptions.)

: If the Minister is going to treat this in a flippant manner——

: Something that happened yesterday is not a point of order. Deputy Leyden is obstructing Question Time. I am calling Question No. 13.

13.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5.

: Service has been provided.

14.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone service to a person (details supplied) in County Meath who is an applicant for the past eight years.

: It has not been possible to provide telephone service for the person named so far because of the volume of cabling work which is required and the general level of engineering work on hands in County Meath.

15.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone kiosk will be provided for the upper part of Cappoquin town, County Waterford.

: The kiosk will be provided as soon as possible after the necessary engineering stores become available.

: Could the Minister say if the kiosk will be provided within the next month?

: No, I could not give that commitment.

: Is the Minister aware of the urgent need for this telephone kiosk especially since the post office in Cappoquin has been changed from its previous location and is now at the lower part of the town, which is causing great inconvenience?

: The nearest telephone kiosk to that location is a distance of a quarter of a mile.

: Is the Minister of State aware that the majority of people in Cappoquin live in the upper region of the town and will he ensure that this work is carried out as quickly as possible as even a month is a long time to wait?

: It will be provided as soon as possible.
