Vol. 342 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 1, 2, 9 (Resumed), 10 (Resumed) and 11. By agreement Standing Orders will be suspended between 6 and 7 p.m. today to allow statements by Members on the situation in relation to Telectron Limited. No Member will be allowed to make more than one statement. Private Member's Business will be No. 25.

In order to facilitate Members who wish to attend the Arbour Hill commemoration ceremonies it is proposed that the Dáil will not meet tomorrow until 2.30 p.m.

Can the Taoiseach confirm that item No. 10 on the Order Paper — Bankruptcy Bill, 1982 — is ordered for today?

It is, yes.

Would the Taoiseach perhaps agree with me that it is entirely, indeed totally, appropriate, that this Coalition Government should be introducing legislation to deal with industrial and commercial bankruptcies?

Who commissioned the report on the subject?

It has come forward to us from a previous incarnation, if "incarnation" is the right word.

Who commissioned the report on that subject?

(Interruptions.)

I should like to raise on the adjournment the future of Scoil Íde, Finglas, in the light of a recent departmental decision in relation to that school.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

I should like the Government to make a statement in relation to the liquidation of Ever Clear Limited — the effect of the liquidation on the 42 people employed there and also the situation in regard to the 2,300 people who are subscribers.

The Deputy may not raise that matter on the Order of Business.

In those circumstances, I should like to raise the matter on the Adjournment.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

I tabled a Private Notice Question concerning an alleged deal with kidnappers but it was ruled out of order on the grounds that the matter is sub judice.

That is correct.

I tabled a Private Notice Question in relation to the closure of Paul and Vincent Limited, Tullamore, but it was ruled out of order.

The Deputy may not question the Chair's ruling.

Am I not entitled to ask why the Private Notice Question was not allowed?

The Chair has communicated already with Deputy Connolly on the matter.

But I find your ruling very strange.

The Deputy is welcome to come to my office and discuss the ruling in an orderly and, I hope, a friendly manner but he is not in order now.

I seek permission to raise the matter on the Adjournment.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

Can the Taoiseach say if it is the intention to bring forward next week, as promised, the legislation in relation to third country boats fishing in our waters? To refresh his memory, two weeks ago he said that the legislation would be before the House within three weeks.

The exact arrangements are being sorted out between the Whips. I cannot give an exact timetable as to the legislation.
