Vol. 342 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Drainage.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance the expenditure to date on the Robe-Mask drainage scheme, County Mayo; and when it is proposed to have the drainage works completed.

Total expenditure to 31 March 1983 on the Corrib-Mask-Robe catchment drainage scheme amounted to approximately £12.4 million. It is expected that the scheme will be completed in 1984.

Was it by tender or contract?

Can the Minister guarantee that the scheme, as prepared, will be completed and that all the necessary funds will be made available to complete the job?

It is estimated that the total expenditure on the scheme will be £19 million. It is on schedule. The expenditure for the past three years has been somewhat similar. There is sufficient money to keep it going full steam in this year's Estimates. My information is that it will be finished in 1984.

Is there any truth in the suggestion that a direction has been given to cut back on the schedule of works attached to the Mask-Robe drainage scheme?

No, none whatever.

The remaining 574 questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
