Vol. 342 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Collection of Royalties.

38.

asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism if, in view of the attitude of the Performing Right Society Ltd. to the collection of royalties, if he will make a statement on the matter.

The composers of musical works are entitled to take appropriate measures to protect the rights given to them by copyright law. These include the right to restrict the performance of their works in public. I understand that the majority of composers avail themselves of membership of the Performing Right Society to have their rights exercised. I am not aware of any general concern about the attitude of the society in performing this function.
