Vol. 342 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Firm.

531.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if, in view of the fact that a buyer has now been located for a firm (details supplied) in County Tipperary, he will ensure that the IDA will encourage this firm financially and otherwise to open and to create jobs immediately.

The Industrial Development Authority are aware that a new owner has acquired the rendering plant at Cahir, County Tipperary, formerly owned by Robert Wilson & Company. The IDA have had discussions with the new owner concerning the reopening of this plant. However, since 1977 it has been IDA policy not to provide grant assistance for rendering facilities as sufficient capacity already existed in this sector. The IDA are at present re-examining this policy in the light of a number of grant applications which have been received from rendering plants. When this re-examination has been completed the IDA will be in a position to make decisions on the applications which are on hand.
