Vol. 342 No. 4

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grant Applications.

608.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give the approximate number of applications for house improvement grants which were refused due to the fact that work had commenced prior to the inspection by his Department; and if he will give on average the number of representations from public representatives on those applications.

The information requested in relation to the number of applications for house improvement grants rejected because of failure by the applicants to comply with the prior inspection requirement and the number of representations received from public representatives in respect of those applications is not readily available in my Department. While the records kept relate, in part, to rejected applications these are not segregated on the basis of grounds for rejection. With the available staff resources it would not be possible to have the required information extracted without seriously affecting the existing heavy volume of day-to-day work.
