asked the Minister for Labour if, in view of the gross exploitation of woman workers in the commercial cleaning sector, he will indicate his agreement to establish a joint labour committee for this sector in order to provide legal minimum standards in respect of conditions of employment.

Under the Industrial Relations Act, 1946 the power to set up Joint Labour Committees rests with the Labour Court. In response to an application from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions the Labour Court are at present considering, in accordance with the provisions laid down in the Industrial Relations Act, 1946, the establishment of a Joint Labour Committee for the contract cleaning industry in Dublin city and county.
