Vol. 342 No. 6

Written Answers. - Employment of Substitute Teachers.

622.

asked the Minister for Education if she will confirm that her Department will pay a substitute for a teacher who is bereaved by the death of her spouse for a maximum of five days and for a teacher who is bereaved by the death of an immediate family member.

Leave of absence from school duty for a maximum of five days may be granted to a teacher on the occasion of the death of an immediate relative. However, there are no provisions whereby payment may be made by my Department in respect of a substitute employed during the absence of a teacher in those circumstances.
