Vol. 342 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Employment Exchange.

748.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the very high unemployment which exists in the Tallaght area, County Dublin, he recognises the need that exists for an adequately staffed employment exchange there; and if he will provide it as a matter of urgency.

749.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he proposes to open a temporary employment exchange in the Tallaght area, County Dublin.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 748 and 749 together.

It is intended to provide a full employment exchange service for the Tallaght area in the proposed new Tallaght town centre when it is developed. It is understood that work on the development will commence early in 1984. In the meantime pending development of the town centre the provision of a temporary employment exchange is being urgently pursued. It had been hoped to obtain from the Department of Posts and Telegraphs premises that would be suitable for this purpose. These premises are, however, no longer available but negotiations are at present proceeding for the acquisition of alternative premises at an early date and, provided no difficulties are encountered, it is proposed to acquire these and have them fitted out as a temporary employment exchange within 12 months.
