Vol. 342 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport.

848.

asked the Minister for Education the reason children attending the secondary school in Rochfort-bridge, County Westmeath, from Croghan and Rhode, County Offaly, were not allowed to travel on the school bus on 9 May 1983 as they had all paid the contributions, and as this action caused great inconvenience to the pupils and their parents; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

With effect from Monday, 9 May 1983 only pupils in possession of both a travel permit and the associated validation ticket have been allowed to travel on school transport services. The extended closing date for application for a validation ticket was 27 April 1983.

Since the pupils in question had not made due application by 27 April, they did not have appropriate validation tickets on 9 May 1983. Those who have made validation applications after 27 April 1983 are being issued with validation tickets as quickly as possible.
