Vol. 342 No. 7

Written Answers. - Help for Argentinian Group.

673.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the support or assistance the Irish Ambassador in Argentina has offered to the group known as "Mothers of the Plaza Mayo" which is campaigning for full disclosure of information on people who disappeared in Argentina during the 1970s.

The Government are seriously concerned about the grave violations of human rights in Argentina, and the failure to bring to justice those responsible for such violations. The Government, together with our partners in the Ten, have on numerous occasions made representations to the Argentine authorities about the fate of the disappeared. Most recently, in relation to the document on the fate of disappeared persons issued by the military junta on 28 April, the Ten stated that this document could not be considered a sufficient or final answer to the numerous approaches on this matter which the Ten had made previously. The Ten further urged the Argentine authorities to give satisfactory clairfication of the fate of the missing people.
