Written Answers. - County Limerick Water and Sewerage Schemes.

614.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will give approval for Newcastle West sewerage scheme, County Limerick.

Contract documents for stage 1 of the Newcastle West sewerage scheme, County Limerick are under consideration in my Department. The scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for sanitary services and the number of schemes of high priority at present under construction or getting to construction stage for which adequate finance must be provided. I am not yet in a position to say when a decision will issue to the local authority.

I have already in 1983 approved contract documents for the following schemes in County Limerick:—Limerick City ring watermain; Castletroy Water supply; Ballyagran water supply; Surface water drainage for Galvone area.

Contract documents for this scheme have been submitted to my Department by Limerick County Council and are under consideration. In view, however, of the large number of fully approved schemes in progress or getting to construction for which adequate finance must be provided, I cannot say at this stage when I will be in a position to approve the contract documents for the Kilmallock regional water supply scheme.
