Vol. 342 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

689.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange to have an income tax rebate made to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as the application has been made.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the returns of income submitted by the taxpayer in this case did not include all the information required by the inspector of taxes to review the tax liability for 1982-83 and earlier years. The inspector wrote to the taxpayer on 5 May 1983, for the outstanding particulars required, and on receipt of a reply the taxpayer's liability will be reviewed and brought up to date.

690.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the tax rebates paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick are correct and whether they represent the full amount due to him; and, if not, when the rest of the refund will be paid.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that an application for a refund of tax suffered under PAYE for the year 1982-83 on the grounds of unemployment was received by the inspector of taxes on 10 March 1983, and a cheque in settlement of the claim was issued to the taxpayer on 31 March 1983. It appeared to the inspector that further reliefs were due to the taxpayer for that year and additional information was requested on 29 March 1983, to clarify the position. The necessary details were received from the taxpayer on 6 April 1983, and a further cheque was issued to the taxpayer on 2 May 1983. There is no further refund due to the taxpayer for the year 1982-83 on the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes.
