In 1978 my Department approved in principle of an extension of two classrooms to Ardfert national school, County Kerry, on the basis of future enrolments as then projected. The project was ready to proceed to the invitation of tenders in December 1981 and an up-to-date survey of enrolment trends was undertaken in accordance with normal practice to check current accommodation requirements. This survey showed that only one extra room was needed for present needs and probably for the needs of the next few years also. Since the plans would have had to be redesigned to provide just one classroom, it was decided to defer the invitation of tenders for the present and the chairman was so informed.
The position will be reviewed early in the 1983-84 school-year.

asked the Minister for Education if she will approve a grant to extend Coolard national school, Listowel, County Kerry.
There are no proposals to extend Coolard national school, County Kerry. My Department have recently received a report from the Commissioners of Public Works concerning a scheme of improvements to the school. This report is being examined in my Department and a decision will be conveyed as soon as possible to the chairman. A grant will also be sanctioned towards the cost of essential works.
A report and recommendation are still awaited from the commissioners concerning some other works which were carried out on the chairman's instructions. When the commissioners have reported, a decision will be conveyed to the chairman without delay.

Sketch plans have been approved for the proposed extension to Clontibret primary school, County Monaghan, and a grant has been sanctioned towards the cost. The further planning arrangements are a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works.
