asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will state in regard to travel allowances the primary rate per mile payable in a case where a motor car of 14, 18 or 24 horse-power is used by (a) a civil servant, (b) a member of a local authority and (c) a Member of Dáil Éireann; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

Notes:

(1) Paid for the first 2,000 miles travelled in a mileage year and in respect of all cars over 12 H.P. This rate is adjusted annually.

(2) Paid, where the local authority so decides, by resolution, to a member of a local authority whose residence is 5 miles or more from the place of meeting of the local authority, for each mile travelled from and to his official residence to and from the place of meeting. This rate was last adjusted in September 1981.

(3) Paid for the first 15,000 miles travelled in any year commencing 1 January. This rate was last adjusted in 1980.

It should be noted that the amounts quoted are in respect of the primary rate only.
