Vol. 342 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Donegal Telephone Accounts.

516.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the serious discrepancy in the telephone account of a person (details supplied) in County Donegal, he will undertake a complete review of all accounts in County Donegal; and the reason for a discrepancy in this particular account.

I do not accept that there is a need for a general review of telephone accounts in County Donegal or elsewhere. The fact is that telephone accounts generally are accurate. Some mistakes occur, mainly due to clerical errors, but the numbers of such cases are relatively insignificant. The case referred to by the Deputy is one of these. The error was made due to failure to comply with approved procedures. This has now been corrected.

I might add that in the case of Donegal the average call user per subscriber charged for in the January-March 1983 quarter was lower than for the corresponding quarter in 1982.
