Vol. 342 No. 11

Written Answers. - Doolin (Clare) Pier.

557.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the recent damage caused to Doolin pier, County Clare; and the action he proposes to take to make the pier safe.

My Department have received no correspondence in regard to Doolin pier but I am informed that the pier has suffered damage recently. Responsibility for carrying out any necessary repair work rests, however, with Clare County Council who, I understand are in correspondence with the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, the Office of Public Works and Údarás na Gaeltachta in the matter. My only function in relation to such work relates to the sanction of local authority loan applications and, to date, no application has been received from the council. There are no funds available for such schemes in the Public Capital Programme for the current year.
