Vol. 342 No. 11

Written Answers. - Death Grant.

585.

asked the Minister for Health when a death grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7.

Health boards do not operate a scheme of death grants. However, they are empowered to make a contribution towards funeral expenses in certain circumstances.

The person in question was paid £150 by the Eastern Health Board towards the funeral costs of her late mother-in-law in October 1982.

As a result of an appeal by the applicant for additional assistance, the superintendent community welfare officer has recommended payment of a further amount. A final decision in the matter will be taken by the Eastern Health Board in the next few days.
