Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

809.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the position of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath whose parents were told he should be attending an Athlone second-level school as he is two miles nearer Moate, and would have to cycle three miles to catch the Athlone school transport bus whereas the Moate bus passes by his door and has room for him; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

810.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the position of persons (details supplied) in County Westmeath whose parents were told that they should be attending an Athlone second-level school even though their home is in the Moate catchment area where they are now going to school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 809 and 810 together.

The local administration of the post primary school transport scheme is carried out by transport liaison officers in conjunction with Córas Iompair Éireann. In this particular case, I understand that it has been established that the pupils in question live in the Moate catchment area and are fully eligible for transport to Moate post-primary centre. The necessary tickets have been issued.

811.

asked the Minister for Education if she will order a complete review of the second-level school catchment boundary areas between Ballymahon and Athlone, in view of the anomalies in these areas.

812.

asked the Minister for Education if she will order a complete review of the second-level school catchment boundary areas between Moate and Athlone, County Westmeath, in view of the anomalies in these areas.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 811 and 812 together.

I an not aware of anomalies which would warrant a review of the catchment areas in question. However, if the school authorities feel that particular circumstances exist in this regard, it is open to them to submit a case to the Department.
