Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Institute for Higher Education Course.

826.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the grants payable to students in our Institute for Higher Education who are paying fees to the relevant Irish institute but where the course demands attendance at a foreign university; and if she will agree to the payment of a maintenance grant in all of these cases.

The arrangements in connection with the relevant courses were made by the National Institute of Higher Education, Dublin and set out in the published prospectus.

The arrangements do not involve additional expenditure by the institute in respect of the period of the students' attendance at the specified continental university or institute of higher education.

If, however, the student is in receipt of a higher education grant in accordance with the terms of a scheme formulated under the Local Authorities (Higher Education Grants) Act, the grant in respect of maintenance may be paid in all cases at the appropriate non-adjacent rate in respect of the period of study at the educational institution abroad.
