Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Election Deposit.

582.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the huge fall in the value of money since the deposit for a candidate at a Dáil election was fixed at £100 in the early twenties, he will take steps to have the deposit raised to a realistic corresponding figure such as £1,000; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no proposals to amend the electoral law to provide for an increase in the deposit required of candidates at Dáil elections.
