Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Youth Employment Scheme.

607.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will arrange with Kerry County Council to remove the overgrowth and the build up of debris on the River Flesk between Garries Bridge at Clonkeen and the mouth of the river at Lough Lein, Killarney, County Kerry, under the temporary youth employment scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Funds available for the operation of the temporary youth employment scheme administered by the Department are not available to county councils. Grants are made available under this scheme to community, youth and sports organisations for the employment of young people on desirable works of a type which would not otherwise be undertaken in the normal course at the present time.

608.

asked the Minister for Labour when a temporary youth employment scheme grant will be re-allocated to a group (details supplied) in County Galway.

A grant was allocated to the group in December, 1981. Work on the project did not commence, despite reminders from the Department, and the grant was cancelled in October 1982.

A further application for a grant under the Youth Employment Scheme has recently been received by my Department in this case. The application is being considered at present and I expect a decision to be made at an early date.
