Cork County Council reported recently that Schull Pier had deteriorated. Officers of my Department subsequently inspected the pier and recommended an investigation including an underwater survey to ascertain the condition of the pier.
As the existing structure will form the nucleus of the proposed development scheme, it is essential that this investigation be undertaken before any work by way of repair or extension is carried out.
It is estimated that the development scheme proposed for Schull will take about two-and-a-half years to complete.
