Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Revenue Commissioners' Administration.

667.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline his responsibilities with regard to the Revenue Commissioners; and what channels are open to Deputies to satisfy themselves as to the activities of the Revenue Commissioners.

My responsibilities with regard to the Revenue Commissioners are set out in the Revenue Commissioners Order, 1923, the Ministers and Secretaries Act 1924 and in the legislation governing the administration of our tax system. Generally, I exercise overall responsibility for revenue administration but the duty of administering the tax system is assigned to the Revenue Commissioners who exercise the function of the care and management of the taxes.

As regards the second part of the question, information regarding the activities of the Revenue Commissioners can be elicited from the annual reports of the commissioners and through the normal parliamentary procedures subject to the requirements of confidentiality in regard to individual cases.
