Vol. 343 No. 3

Written Answers. - Advertising by Departments.

643.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in relation to the last complete financial year for which figures are available, the amount expended by his Department or by agencies directly controlled or funded by his Department on press advertising in newspapers and magazines published in this country; and the amount expended with each newspaper or periodical concerned.

The amount expended by my Department in advertising in newspapers and magazines in 1982 was £145,475.

The precise amount paid to each publication on our advertising list is not immediately available and, having regard to the numbers of publications we use and the frequency with which advertising appears, I do not consider that the time and expense involved in calculating these amounts would be justified.

Press advertising by State bodies under the aegis of my Department is a day-to-day function for the bodies concerned and, consequently, I am not in a position to provide the information requested.
