Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Imports.

1.

(Limerick West) asked the Taoiseach the value of agricultural imports from non-EEC member states in 1982; and the amount from each country.

2.

(Limerick West) asked the Taoiseach the value of agricultural imports from EEC member states in 1982; and the amount from each country.

Dún Laoghaire): I propose to take Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together. In the official trade statistics imports are not analysed according to economic sector of origin. However, import data are available for the category “Food and live animals”. In 1982 imports under this category were valued at £549.4 million from EEC countries and £203.9 million from non-EEC countries. I propose to circulate a statement showing the values for individual countries.

Following is the statement:

The figure of £203.9 million from non-EEC countries seems particularly high. I know the Minister is circulating a statement but could he give one or two of the larger figures?

(Dún Laoghaire): USA £66.5 million; Canada £18.7 million; Thailand £10.7 million.

Could we have an indication of the products involved?

(Dún Laoghaire): I am sorry, I do not have that information.

3.

(Limerick West) asked the Taoiseach the amount of imports of fillers i.e. tapioca, pollard and bran in 1980, 1981 and 1982.
