asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline actions and policies being pursued at present or to be pursued in the near future by his Department to alleviate or deal with any aspect of the difficulties confronting the socially and economically disadvantaged area of the inner city of Dublin, north of the River Liffey; and if he will give details of the proposed time-table in respect of any such initiative, and the amounts of moneys, including grants, subsidies or other resources which arise in this regard.

The services administered by my Department apply, generally speaking, throughout the State and no special schemes are in operation in Dublin north centre city.
One of the services of particular assistance to deprived persons is the supplementary welfare allowance scheme which involves payment through local centres and the special needs of particular areas are taken into account by assigning additional resources, where necessary, to administer such schemes. In this regard an additional community welfare officer has already been allocated to an area in the city centre on both sides of the River Liffey to deal with all the residents of hostels in that area. Additional community welfare officers have also been assigned to each of the Cabra, Summerhill and Marino areas and there are plans to have a new health centre opened in each area shortly.
