Vol. 344 No. 1

Written Answers. - Athenry (Galway) Post Primary School.

686.

asked the Minister for Education if she has received a submission from the parents of pupils attending Presentation College, Athenry, County Galway, protesting against the effects of the educational cutbacks on their school which include the increase in the pupil-teacher ratio which will reduce the present number of subject options and give rise to larger classes, the distinct possibility of the loss of the schools career guidance facility and the hardship being caused as a result of transport charges in an isolated rural area; and if she will make a statement on her proposals to alleviate the problems being caused for this school.

The submission referred to has been received in my Department.

I do not accept the implication that the revised staffing arrangements for postprimary schools will result in undue difficulties for the school in question.

The regulations for school transport are of general application and enable satisfactory arrangements to be made for the school in question as well as for other schools.
