Vol. 344 No. 3

Written Answers. - Subsidised Electricity Supply.

706.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the up-todate position in relation to the application of farmers in the Shanara and Glencuttane areas near Beaufort, County Kerry, for an EEC subsidised supply of electricity; and how soon the application will be decided.

In the case of the Shanara and Glencuttane areas, the costs to each applicant for connection to electricity supply under the western package electrification scheme are interdependent in that the sum to be recouped from individual applicants will be affected by the total number of applicants finally approved. Because of this, applicants were not informed of the outcome until a decision had been made on all of them.

Of the 14 applications received from the Shanara and Glencuttane areas six have been approved, seven have not been successful because they are ineligible according to the EEC regulations governing the scheme, and one application is still under consideration. As soon as this applicant provides additional information requested from him electricity supply at subsidised terms will be offered to those applicants who are eligible for assistance under the scheme.
