Vol. 344 No. 4

Written Answers. - Retirement Pension.

685.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether it is normal for a retiring civil servant from his Department to have to wait four or five weeks before a pension and gratuity are payable even though one months notice was given before retirement; and if he will reform this situation.

It is not usual for a retiring civil servant in my Department to have to wait this period for payment of pension and gratuity in the circumstances stated. Where, however there may be difficulties in assessing the correct amount involved and some delay is likely, a substantial advance on the gratuity is ordinarily made.
