Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Road Safety Association.

675.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the widespread and increasing distress and suffering caused by road traffic accidents and of the crucial role played by the National Road Safety Association in controlling and lessening this distress, he intends to take steps to ensure that the totally inadequate level of funding now being given to the association is brought up to the level which would enable it to carry out its programme of activities in a satisfactory manner.

I appreciate the importance of the role played by the National Road Safety Association. I regret, however, that, in the present difficult economic situation it is not possible to increase the Department's 1983 provision of £410,000 to meet the administration and general expenses of the association.
