Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tallow (Waterford) Garda Strength.

32.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the unrest among the people of Tallow, County Waterford, because sufficient gardaí are not available in the town; and if he will ensure the presence of at least one Garda at all times.

Limerick East): I am informed by the Garda authorities that the current strength of one sergeant and two gardaí at Tallow station is the maximum that can be provided at present having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services.

The service provided by the local gardaí is supplemented by assistance from the uniform units at Lismore and Dungarvan as and when required. Following the temporary allocation of an official motorcycle to Tallow station in April, motorcycle patrols are now being operated in the Tallow area and the area also receives attention from mobile patrols carried out by the Divisional Task Force and the Traffic Corps.

The local Garda officers state that they consider that these arrangements are adequate to meet the police needs of the area and that, although none of the three members assigned to Tallow station resides in the area, the local community can be assured that their area is receiving regular Garda attention.
