asked the Minister for the Environment the maximum grant available in each local authority area under the disabled persons grants scheme; and if he will take steps to ensure that the same maximum grant is available in each area throughout the country.
Written Answers. - Disabled Persons' Grants Scheme.
223.
Under the Housing Regulations, 1980, housing authorities are empowered to pay a disabled persons' grant not exceeding the approved cost of the work in the case of a non-vested local authority house and two-thirds of the approved cost in any other case. It is at the discretion of a housing authority to determine, within the above limits, the grant payable in an individual case.
My Department's role in the scheme is confined to recouping to local authorities a proportion of their expenditure up to a maximum of £2,000 in any particular case.
